EDMONTON, AB-The Alberta Cans for Kids
project to support the Stollery Children's Hospital is half way to
its goal of raising $100,000 for the kids.
It takes nine 48 foot semi-trailers to
bring 500,000 cans to the recycle centre and we're going to bring
in all nine trucks at once.
Nine-year-old former Stollery patient
Hope Gushnowski will be on hand to toss in the last can to top off
the last truck load.
Date: Thursday, September 9, 2010
Time: 9:30 am
Place: In front of recycling plant at
9455 - 45 Avenue
Edmonton area residents can help
Alberta Cans for Kids hit its goal by bringing in their recyclable
containers the September 11 and 12 weekend to any Depot. A complete
list of depots is available at
"We need just one container from every
customer that comes into a Depot and we can reach our goal this
year," said Jeff Linton of the Alberta Bottle Depot Association.
"One small act can make a huge difference for our environment and
in the life of a child."
On average more than 500 beverage
containers are returned to a depot from every home in Alberta every
year. Even so, more than 300 million containers went missing last
year. Bringing in all your recyclables can help children in your
community.
