Canmore, Cochrane and Banff Depots contribute to Alberta Cans for Kids $100,000 fundraising goal

Canmore....The Alberta Bottle Depot Association (ABDA) today presented the Alberta Children's Hospital Foundation with a cheque for $11,835.25 from its Alberta Cans for Kids program.  The cheque was presented at the Canmore Depot.  The Canmore, Cochrane and Banff Depots raised the money through donations of beverage containers from their customers.

Alberta Cans for Kids is a fundraising initiative implemented by the ABDA to raise money and awareness for important causes through one simple act - recycling beverage containers.  Participating bottle depots across Alberta have bins set aside for the Alberta Cans for Kids program in which customers can deposit their empty beverage containers.  The depot operator recycles those containers and the refundable deposit amounts collected at southern Alberta depots are donated to the Alberta Children's Hospital Foundation.

"Congratulations to the Alberta Bottle Depot Association, the Cochrane, Canmore and Banff Depots and the Alberta Children's Hospital on a successful partnership," said Janis Tarchuk, MLA for Banff-Cochrane.  "Your accomplishments are to be commended and will help ensure a healthier future for our children.  This important grassroots charity donation drive exemplifies how simple, selfless gestures can make a big difference in the lives of those around us"

Alberta Cans for Kids is hoping to raise $100,000 in southern Alberta for the Alberta Children's Hospital Foundation, by October of this year.  A similar fundraising goal has been set in northern Alberta for the Stollery Children's Hospital Foundation.   The program has raised a total of $179,295.80 province-wide since it was implemented in 2009.

"Support for Alberta Cans for Kids has been amazing.  With the help of this community, we are well on our way to achieving our $100,000 goal this year," said Jeff Linton, Executive Director of the ABDA.

"We're so grateful to the Alberta Bottle Depot Association for their Alberta Cans for Kids initiative," said Jeanette Lyall of the Alberta Children's Hospital Foundation.  "Thanks to community support, we are

able to provide funding for child health programs, life-saving equipment and innovative research at the Alberta Children's Hospital.  We're very proud to be part of a community that shares in the vision of a healthier future for our children."
