Edmonton....The Alberta Bottle Depot Association (ABDA) has reached the fundraising milestone of $200,000 for the Alberta Children's Hospital Foundation and Stollery Children's Hospital Foundation through its Alberta Cans for Kids program.  The Alberta Cans for Kids program raises the money through donations of beverage containers from Albertans who visit Depots.

Alberta Cans for Kids is a fundraising initiative implemented by the ABDA to raise money and awareness for important causes through one simple act - recycling beverage containers.  Participating Depots across Alberta have bins set aside for the Alberta Cans for Kids program in which customers can deposit their empty beverage containers.  The depot operator recycles those containers and the refundable deposit amounts collected at Alberta Depots are donated to the appropriate Foundation.

"The support for this program is truly inspiring," notes Jeff Linton, Executive Director for the ABDA. "More than 2 million containers have already been donated, most often, one container at a time. One container from each customer, and look at the impact it has when we all do it together. We are making a difference; for the environment and for kids!"

"Continued support from Alberta Cans for Kids allows the Stollery Children's Hospital to remain on the forefront of pediatric care" said Lori Finck, Corporate Giving Coordinator at the Stollery Children's Hospital Foundation, "whether the proceeds fund critical equipment, leading-edge research or training the best of the best, every can, bottle and donation makes a difference. We are truly proud to be beneficiaries of this campaign and want to thank everyone who has made this possible."

"We are so grateful to the Alberta Bottle Depot Association for their Alberta Cans for Kids initiative," says Jeanette Lyall of the Alberta Children's Hospital Foundation. "Thanks to incredible community support like this we are able to continue to provide our medical experts with the tools and people they need, so that our children will be the first to benefit from new discoveries, treatments and cures."
