Environment Minister stops in to local Depot

Thursday, April 07, 2011

Environment Minister Rob Renner stopped in at the Summerside Bottle Depot in Edmonton Ellerslie, along with MLA Naresh Bardwhaj. This is a busy place, even on a Thursday morning. Harjinder Johal and his family have been operating the depot for about a year and a half, but it still looks like it's brand new. They're testing out some state-of-the-art bottle sorting machines that would make a trip to the bottle depot almost as fast as a visit to the drive-thru window.

Staff and customers from bottle depots from all over Alberta have been collecting extra cans and bottles as part of their "Cans for Kids" campaign to raise money for charity. Along with Jeff Linton from the Alberta Bottle Depot Association, they presented a cheque for over $32,000 to the Stollery Children's Hospital Foundation.
